Caledonia Walks-Off With 1AA East Title – PEM Takes Runner Up
It was a hot Memorial Day in Chatfield, and Section 1AA didn't disappoint. Caledonia took down LaCrescent with a walk-off single from Mason Staggemeyer to win 3-2, and then Plainview-Elgin-Millville took down the Lancers in the elimination game with a 5-3 win.
It was fireworks early Monday afternoon as the Lancers took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning against the Warriors. Yet, the Warriors were not backing down despite the warm temperatures.
Andrew Goergen hit a double and was knocked in by an RBI single from Eric Augedahl to make the score 2-1, the Warriors tied it up when Evan Denstad drove in Goergen again.
The game was tied at 2 headed to the bottom of the 7th when Mason Staggemeyer hit a single to left that drove in Payton Schott for the walk-off winner 3-2 and the Section 1AA East Subsection championship!
With the loss, the LaCrescent Lancers had to battle the Bulldogs of Plainview-Elgin-Millville to advance to Section Tournament play, and PEM came out swinging!
PEM scored three runs in the first and added another two in the second on a two-run homer from Barron Holtz. The Bulldogs held on to the five-run lead, but barely.
The Lancers got two back in the third on RBIs from Cade McCool and Jess Fechner. The Lancers then made it a two-score game in the sixth when Gavin Christenson scored on a wild pitch.
Leading by two in the bottom of the seventh, the Bulldogs were able to hold runners on second and third with one out to get the win and advance on!
Caledonia will take on Triton in the "Chair" game Saturday morning at 10am, while PEM will take on Rochester Lourdes at 10am in the Section 1AA Elimination game.
