Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Byron man is facing prosecution for a deadly traffic wreck that happened last New Year’s Eve.

The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office says the deadly wreck happened around 11 p.m. Dec. 31 on Valleyhigh Road near the Somerby golf course.

The criminal complaint says a car driven by 20-year-old Jordan Wilde crossed the centerline and collided head-on with another vehicle. The driver of that vehicle, 60-year-old Daniel Pyfferoen of rural Byron, died at the scene.

Investigators determined Wilde was driving at 62 mph at the time of the collision and there were no skid marks.

Wilde told officers he had smoked marijuana before the wreck. A blood test has confirmed traces of marijuana in his system and the prescription drug Xanax.

The criminal complaint that was filed in Olmsted County Court on Wednesday charges Wilde with criminal vehicular homicide (operating a vehicle with neglect-under the influence of a controlled substance). He has been ordered to make his first court appearance in August.
