Ben grew up in Mabel, Minnesota before going on to get a degree from Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato. He spent much of his youth listening to Twins games on KFIL. Ben moved on and wrote articles for his college sports website and also wrote Rochester Honkers game summaries while interning with Townsquare Media in Rochester. Ben likes most all the sports, though he knows the letdown that is associated with the Minnesota teams. One of his first CD's was Alan Jackson, and you can hear a mix of country music, from Merle Haggard to Taylor Swift when Ben is on air.

Ben Is Not Great At Basketball
With all the basketball being played in the high school and college ranks these days, I figured I'd give it a shot again. After a few trips down the floor, I figured my best shot at the highlight reel would be SportsCenter Not Top 10.
Last night, instead of going to bed early, I went to play some basketball with some of the guys at the gym in Mabel...
NIT Bracket, Anyone?
I usually fill out an NCAA tournament bracket every year, but again this year I filled out an NIT Bracket. Now, I usually refer to NIT as the team is "Not In Tournament," but just three years ago, the Golden Gophers got all the way to Madison Square Garden and won it...
Ben Adjusts To Daylight Savings
So, we went a full day with the Daylight Savings Time in effect now (Sunday doesn't count as it wasn't a full 24 hours). A lot of people don't really like the time change, but there are some good things about it.
One bad thing I've noticed is that I drive in to work in the dark the whole drive up again...
Lady Falcons Fall to Goodhue in Section Title Game
Friday night, KFIL brought you the Section 1A title game, as the Fillmore Central Falcons girls basketball team battled the defending state champion Goodhue Wildcats. The Falcons fought hard and were down just two at the half, but Goodhue put on some big runs in the second half to come away with a 64-42 victory for another trip to state...
Twins Vs…Twins?!
Last night, we had more Twins baseball on KFIL. The Minnesota Twins took on Team USA as Team USA is preparing for World Baseball Classic action. I listened to some of the game, but here's something that I needed to see with my own eyes this morning...
Caledonia Tops Lewiston-Altura
Tuesday night on KFIL, we brought you a 1AA Section Quarterfinal! Caledonia defeated Lewiston-Altura by a score of 83-56. The Warriors will play again on KFIL on Saturday, taking on Pine Island at 11:00 AM!
The early going was all Caledonia...
I Miss The Metrodome Wind
With Twins baseball and the World Baseball Classic on these days, I am very much looking forward to being outdoors in warm weather. But the old Twins ballpark was always interesting to leave.
Looking at the weather today, I saw that the listening area is in a Wind Advisory until 6:00 PM...
Ben Wakes up Early for Baseball
Monday morning started the World Baseball Classic as Team Israel faced South Korea. The game was a night game out in Korea, but back in Minnesota, so the broadcast time was live at 3:30 a.m.! Did I get up right away? Not quite! But there was plenty of baseball to be played before and while I was at the studio...
Tight Game Early-Lions Roar Past Houston
Thursday night, KVGO had some 1A East subsection quarterfinal boys basketball on the air waves as well, as the Houston Hurricanes traveled to Spring Grove. Spring Grove erased an early deficit and won by a score of 72-33.
In the early going, the game was almost like the Houston game in Mabel on Tuesday night...
Ben Didn’t Eat (All) The Cookies
To set the record straight, I didn't have access to all of the cookies. With family involved in selling Girl Scout cookies in different regions, I was the "mule." Now knowing that there are two different bakers of Girl Scout cookies, I can maybe explain and clear my name...
